Me,Myself and I (Who am I?)

Well I usually hate introductions but since I have to type this instead of saying something interesting about myself infront of 50 people,I have no complaints. I am a biology major, the reason why I chose to go with biology was not because I find cells interesting or enjoy spending my nights going over mitosis and miosis, I chose it because biology is how one can cure people and it also deals with animals and the biological environments. As a kid I spent alot of time exploring a forest right next to my house and often ended up rescueing wild animals, so biology, animals and the wild in general is something I am crazy about.

Why did I choose this class?. Well, life is all about knowing things; our survival literally depends on it. Since this class is about global events,I wanted to know more about what's happening around the world and global community in general. Also Annemarie seems to be a fair professor so I wanted to take her class again. Sorry i only had two paragraphs to write about myself so i wrote whatever came to my mind. Introductions are meant to be honest, I am not going to bother reivising this one!

Me, Myself and I

Hello everyone. My name is Kaitlyn Bendlin and I am a senior in my last semester here at Binghamton! I'm a double degree student in the anthropology and human development programs. My plan for after Binghamton is to go for my masters in speech pathology, but first I need to do a year of necessary prerequisite work so I decided that I’m going to move out to Portland, Oregon for a year to experience a new place while I take the classes I need to apply to grad school. I’m excited to see what the other side of the country is like. I’ve heard it’s beautiful and quite different than life on the East coast!

When I’m not doing school work I work as a lifeguard and swimming instructor. When I’m not working I love listening to and seeking out new musicians (Pandora is usually playing on my computer), watching movies (especially independent films and documentaries), writing, playing basketball and doing anything outdoors. I’m going skydiving in May in celebration of graduating and I can’t wait! I have a new found love of running and I’m actually in the beginning stages of training for a half marathon in May. Because of my training I’ve also picked up healthy cooking and baking, which, by the way, is actually pretty delicious.

I’m taking this class because it compliments my other course work really well and because it’s so relative to our generation. If we're living it, we might as well be studying it too.I think this is going to be a great class and I’m looking forward to reading the blogs. I hope everyone has an overall awesome semester!

Hello, my name is Junaid Nomani and I'm a senior at binghamton. First with the basics, I'm a biology major about to graduate, but I'm probably going to stay another 2 years or so and get a computer science degree as well.

I choose this class for a gen ed because I'm an avid user of various internet communication sites such as reddit. I also think communication in general is one of the most important skills to have in any job. I also write short stories so the "narrative" part of the course is also interesting to me and may affect the way I write.

One of my biggest interests is brazilian jujitsu. Its probably one of the most physically demanding sports out there (its similar to wrestling) as well as one of the most complicated and mentally challenging; its often referred to as "chess with your body".

Hello everybody, my name is Michael Crudele. First of all, I would like to interject I am excited to get to know everyone in the class and am eager to learn about global media. I am a freshman who took this course mostly for the credit with a slight interest in communication. After the first week I realized many students in the class are upperclassmen, which indicates this will not be a easy-breezy general education class, but I am up for the challenge. At Binghamton, I am in the School of Management currently labeled as "Undecided Business", in other words, a clueless freshman. I have broad intentions for this class as I keep an open mind looking for anything that will ignite passion.
A little bit about myself. My name is Michael, but feel free to call me Mike; I am good at a lot of things, but very good at very few; in childhood I considered myself athletic, but now I feel mostly academic. I have a big heart and look for love everywhere. One part of the female anatomy that attracts me most is the brain because without a good mind everything else is insignificant. Optimism will open all doors, while pessimism will lock them. I like to refer to Aesop's fables when faced with a predicament. I believe one grows through experience. And finally, I like to party!

My name is John Chu and I am a senior at BU. My major is in chemistry and I am expected to graduate after this semester. Since I unfortunately do not have a clear idea of what I want to do after college, I plan to take a year off to explore my interests and hopefully pinpoint what it is that I want to do for the rest of my life.

In the near future I want to travel to Hong Kong and explore the culture there because it interests me and also because my passport is quite blank, which is never a good thing. I want to explore the culture in which my family has come from.

In this class I hope to learn more about digital global storytelling because technology is an integral part of today's world and it isn't going away. It is simply part of life. I look forward to meeting everyone and having some fun in this class.

My name is Qianli “James” and I’m currently studying in the school of management. I’m from China and this is my second school year in the United States.

I am easy-going but sometimes stressful, open-minded but usually stubborn and adventurous but always precautious. I love to learn and explore new things, which partly leads to my study abroad experience in Binghamton. I can get used to a new environment easily but I also like to change my surroundings constantly. Also, I am open to everything. This contributes to my broad knowledge but also means that I have few things that I am specialized at.

I love to do community service projects. I found my interest into community service as early as high school. But I think I started to really take it seriously in my first semester in Binghamton University. I took one service-learning course in my first semester and that was when I realized how passionate I was about community service. I remembered when I first read the assignment and I got so scared: twenty hours commitment of community was required! However, after I started to do different kinds of service project, I found it was not hard at all. During all these different sort of projects, such as Rely for Life aids walk, group fundraising by apple-pie making and even house construction, I gained a variety of different perspectives from people I met, which also helped me get to know the surrounding community. At the end of the semester I did much more than the required hours. What was more, I found my passion about service. I never look at myself using the same way I did before and I realized my life goal, that is, to make a difference. I still keep up doing service on and off campus after the course. For the past semester, I’ve been involved with five different clubs and doing executive boards for most of them. My calendar is always full of events and I like it that way: it reminds me that I am using every minute of my life doing something meaningful and I am making a difference.

I hope I can learn as much as I can about the global media. The reason I took this course is because that I am very interested in global studies. I’ve already had three “G”, global independence credits and I am actually thinking of doing a minor in this field. Thanks to my open-minded personality, my passion in travelling and my study abroad experience, I am very curious about globalization, a forceful power that is changing every country, every citizen in the world. Therefore I cannot overlook media, which served as one of the most important bridge in globalization. That is why I took this course.

Hello everyone, my name is Matthew Tuttle. I am 21 years old, a Senior, from Long Island, NY. My many hobbies include reading, following celebrity gossip via my favorite celebrity blogs, watching television, and, coincidentally, blogging (though I've been slacking off for a bit.)

My major is Psychology with a concentration in Applied Behavioral Analysis. It's a program offered within the Psychology department that allows to me to take special coursework in Behavioral Therapy at the Institute for Child Development, a center on campus (behind the East Gym) specializing in empirically-based therapy for children with Autism and learning disabilities. My specific program is a full-year educational program for children on the Autism Spectrum. I've been taking courses there for two years, and I'm now working there as a part-time teacher's aide. If it's a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday, you can probably find me there working with some of the best children in the world.

Also, I think it's important to mention that I am a Christian. I serve currently as the President of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, a community of students on campus who want to know more about who God is and how we can live out our faith while in college. My spirituality is a defining force in my worldview.

I took this class really because I've had Fr. Fischer as a professor before and learned a lot, and this course also will count towards my German minor. Ich hoffe, dass ich den Blogeintrag nicht auf Deutsch schreiben gemusst habe.

Hello everyone,

This post will be the first time I have ever "blogged" so I suppose I should start by introducing myself. My name is Natalie Ernyey and I am a senior at BU. I am a marketing major with a minor in global management. The majority of the courses I’ve taken here have been business related, therefore I do not have a lot of experience in creative writing but I’m going to absorb all that I can from this class and do my best to contribute, starting with this blog.

Aside from school interests, I also enjoy sports. I play women’s club soccer here at BU and I am the fundraising chair of that team. I was also a competitive figure skater for about 15 years until I went away to college and didn’t have the time to dedicate to training. I grew up in a small town called Skaneateles, NY where my family and I still live. Most of you have probably never heard of it but it is about an hour and a half north of Binghamton. Anyway, this has been a bit about me and I look forward the getting to know everyone else throughout the semester.

Me, Myself and I

I always get stumped when writing an "About Me." In the internet age, it's safe to say that I've wrote a lot too! Let's start with my name. My name is Jennifer. I'm a sophomore at Binghamton University, majoring in linguistics with a minor in anthropology. Originally from Queens, New York City, my mother works at the IT department for a nonprofit organization, introducing me to the internet and global communication at a very young age. Early exposure to the internet has fueled my interest in language and global culture.

Aside from being interested in language, I love to volunteer. One of my favorite activities was the Project 350 tree planting. Some of my favorite volunteer activities involve children, because one could say I have a sort of naive spirit that helps me relate to them. Over the summer, I spent some time working with a day camp which was an extremely rewarding experience. When I'm not volunteering or working like I did during the summer, I'm listening to music, studying German or just hanging out with friends.

Overall, I find global media to be a powerful force in my life helping me find work, volunteer events, new music, new friends and keep up to date with current events. Hopefully, I can learn more about what makes this dynamic utility tick taking the readers of this blog and my fellow authors along for the ride!

Dear Global Media Narrators and Digital Natives,

welcome to our Fall semester lecture course "Global Media Narratives in the Digital Age" @ Binghamton University in the State of New York!

In this blog, we will be exploring the dynamics of global storytelling and the poetics of global news. Our research focus includes Global Media Studies, Popular Culture, Visual Culture and Sound Studies, as well as Transnational Writing and Narratology.

Please allow me to introduce myself.
My name is Annemarie Fischer, and I am currently serving as a Doctoral Candidate in Comparative Literature at Binghamton University and as an instructor of the Fall 2010 course "Global Media Narratives in the Digital Age".
I obtained a Master of Arts in Political Science from Binghamton University as well as a Magistra atrium in German Studies, Journalism and Eastern European Sciences from Leipzig University in Germany. At Moscow State University, I studied Journalism and Russian Literature and Philology. I am fluent in English, French and Russian. At the United Nations Headquarters in New York, I performed an internship at the Department of Public Information (DPI).
