The Social Network Critique.

“The Social Network” explores the moment at which Facebook was invented and the legal complications that Mark Zuckerberg faces. The movie takes viewers through the creation of Facebook starting from a college dorm room at Harvard University to a multi million-dollar headquarters in California. In the first scene of the movie Mark states his motivation into creating the phenomenon of Facebook. “I need to do something substantial in order to get into an elite club.” Through out the movie viewers saw how badly Mark Zuckerberg wanted to be in an elite club such as the Phoenix club. At Harvard Mark felt like an outsider and needed to do something in order to be recognized. I thought it was interesting that Mark agreed to talk to the Winklevoss twins only when he realized that they played Crew and were in a club. Although the Winklevoss twins came up with an idea, Mark had a better one. In today’s society people are always taking other peoples ideas. I find nothing wrong with it. Mark Zuckerberg had the idea of taking the whole college experience and putting in on the Internet. What I thought was interesting is that Mark Zuckerberg was adamant about Facebook being exclusive, one needed to be invited by their friends in order to join Facebook. Similarly the way one needed to be invited to join Harvard’s elite clubs. After Facebook was created and hundreds of students have joined I liked how Mark Zuckerberg compared Facebook to fashion. Facebook will never end and will always be changing, the way that fashion never ends and trends are always changing. Mark Zuckerberg knew that Facebook was cool which motivated him to keep expanding because Mark desperately wanted to be cool. Mark Zuckerberg never cared about the money nor did he create Facebook for the money, Mark created Facebook in order to be accepted. Overall, “The Social Network” gave viewers an inside look into one of the greatest inventions of our time.
