Communication is something that most people take for granted. Because majority of us have the ability to communicate, we do it without thinking. The exchange of ideas however between two entities is what makes society complex. This may be a poor example but it is one that comes to my mind when trying to recognize the value of communication. When my dog isn't feeling well or wants something, he prances around and howls but that means nothing to me. The communication between us doesn't exist and it makes accomplishing a little task extremely complicated. When Hanno Hardt says that it "...is a reminder of the mythical power of the word as a primary force in society, not unlike the power of money as a movable symbol of economic value." [1] If you look at how much the power of word would simplify the communication to my dog, apply that to the world and throw in significant variables. Communication is extremely powerful and something that should never be overlooked. Mankind has come so far since cavemen because languages and forms of communication were developed to create order in society. It is part of life that simply cannot be overlooked because it is so powerful.

True, strong point, people do take it for granted, and it IS the reason why society has been able to expand and build. Your dog is showing a very good example of communication (and lack there of) and how a very small percentage of his message is being decoded and understood. Very good analogy! And for his sake, I hope he was able to get what he needed.
