Project Muse

For the scholars out there who are about to start a new academic research project, there is a powerful research tool available to many, that may oftentimes be overlooked. As creatures of habit, we frequently return back to our old familiar and reliable sources when looking for new research information. Why? Because we know the database exists, and that it gives us valid and relevant information. It is much easier to start a new search when we go back to our usual starting places such as JSTOR. We do this because we believe this is the shortest route and we don't want to disturb our usual research processes much. Get in, get the information and get back out. Recently, after evaluating databases during a Library Laboratory, I was shown Project Muse. For those with access through a registered University, Project Muse is one of the best online databases of scholarly peer-reviewed Journals that I have ever used. In this day and age why cant we have more than just electronic access to highlights or if we are lucky the full text? Well with Project Muse you can have instant access to not only the text, but also the graphics, charts, images, and are even able to view the journal in its original form in the way it was meant to be viewed. And all of this access comes with no embargoes or time delays tha plague many other databases. Most articles in Project Muse are available immediately, and according to the official website, articles are often uploaded before the print version even hits the newsstands. Project Muse is my new favorite research tool to give me timely and accurate journal information without any waiting or delays.
