Communication is a simple term: it is the connection between a receiver and a sender. This first happened with oral language, and as technology improved, communication became more advanced. Humanity invented a writing system, printing press, telephone, television, and now, a computer. With the modern computer, we use the internet everyday as our prominent method of communicating. It is nearly impossible for the average American to not use the internet somehow everyday, whether it is checking an email or logging onto facebook.
Mass communication has clearly taken over our way of life in the 20th and 21st century. Hardt says, "Mass communication is the originator of a public discourse that changed from social initiatives to institutional domination [1]". With the internet, over millions and millions of people are mass communicating with each other at this very moment. Never in history have we as a a global world have reached this peak.
