My Favorite Blog

When I came into college, my daily blog sustenance was found in the likes of thesuperficial.com and perezhilton.com, both celebrity-gossip sites with mean spirits and (occasionally) clever or witty content. Since my arrival at Binghamton University, I have stopped reading both-- the former becoming a collection of female celebrities in bathing suits or other revealing attire, and the latter... well, I always knew Perez was pond scum, and not much has changed.

My "college friends" looked at another blog that I had heard of and been to a few times-- Just Jared. I started to look at it because, you know, all the cool kids were doing it and I was, initially, turned off by it in the same way I am turned off by tmz.com (or reading celebrity news from AOL or Yahoo)- I wanted opinion! I didn't really care about what Rihanna was wearing on a certain day and where she was going and with whom, I wanted to hear a blogger with a critical voice and Kathy Griffin-like humor to rip their outfit or hairstyle or latest movie apart.

The blog did grow on me- Perhaps because that mean spirit in me died down or because I eventually became addicted to knowing what celebrities were doing- who was on vacation and where, who might portray a certain character in an upcoming movie- and so I stuck with it. Just Jared quickly became one of the bookmarks on my Mozilla toolbar and now it is one of my
top 8 most visited Website (yeah, up there with Twitter, Facebook and my email.) One of the things that I liked the most about Jared was the way he addressed the celebrities. Coming out of a blog-relationship with probably the most prissy, catty, and nasty blogger out there (I'm talking about Perez, just to clarify), I was struck by Jared's amiable reporting style, his well-wishing of the celebs that he follows (read as: "stalks"), and his tact when covering the latest rumor.

Celebrities like him, too. Instead of having confrontations on Reality TV, like Victoria Beckham's meeting with Perez on her "Coming to America" special, Jared makes friendship with celebrities like Taylor Swift, Gwen Stefani, Kellan Lutz, etc.. Wendy Williams loves to give Jared a big shout out on her show every so often. Recently, Jared's been asked to be one of the celebrities at Z100's Jingle Ball (which, I'll admit, I had no clue existed before his name was announced.)

The icing on the cake, though, solidifying my love for Jared was a phone call I received last April. It turns out that one of my best friends at college is his cousin, and she convinced him to wish
me a Happy Birthday. Not only did Jared wish me a happy birthday, but he also friended me on Facebook and wished me a happy birthday on his Twitter.

Justjared.com is, by far, my number one recommendation for celebrity news. Of course, more season celebrity-gossip-junkies would probably emphasize a more rounded diet, but right now I am more than content pressing 'refresh' on Jared's blog instead doing my homework.
