The database http://www.worldcat.org/ allows users to connect to the archives of over 10,000 libraries all over the world.
It also works with the inter library loan system so if you find a book or article you need you may be able to get it through Binghamton's library
It allows users to search multiple and specific publications of materials by year, format, and languages. WorldCat does a great job of showing the distribution of a book or article.
For example a search for Walter Benjamin's The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction returns analyses of the work, articles that reference the book, and the book itself. These results span 7 languages, and several years of research. WorldCat is one of the most expansive academic search engines available
