Workshop Exercise: ACS Database

American Chemical Society

1. This is the database of the The American Chemical Society.[1] It is extremely useful for science majors that are doing research in all of the various forms of chemistry.

2. To do a search, all you have to do is go onto the website and in the search box type what you are trying to find. It will then give you all the results that have been published in ACS. You are then able to filter the search results by content type, publication, manuscript type, author, and date range. If you are looking for research in a general area, there will be many results. Thus, for more in-depth research, it is better to include detailed items in the search criteria.

3. If you are using the internet while on campus, almost all the published articles and research will be available to you in PDF or Hi-Res PDF. Before you delve into reading the article, there are also abstracts that allow you to see if the article is really what you want.

*Interesting fact: We have a lot of faculty here at SUNY Binghamton that are published in this database. If you are interested in doing research, you can look up the professor's published articles and see if they interest you before you commit yourself to working in their laboratory.
