Defining a "Narrative"
Narrative is the presentation of information generally confined by the time and space of an event, or the relevant connections between events (implicit, because explicit connection or correlation would make it a story). The narrative is the very events themselves, and therefore cannot be manipulated by the narrator OR author, only interpreted and presented. (“The dog eats jelly beans. The dog dies.” is the narrative, or sequence of events. The narrator interprets (and presents) the events as “The dog died because he ate the jelly beans.”)
