What is a narrative?

What is narrative?
Simply speaking, when people tell a story, which either fiction or non-fiction, all of them can be defined as a narrative. According to Abbott, the definition of narrative is “the representations of an event or a series of events” He makes the point that "human mind instinctively tries to find an explanation of what is happening in the picture or movie ." He also redefine a narrative to story, plot, and narrative discourse. “Story is an event or sequence of events  and narrative discourse is those events as represented."
