What Is Globalization?

Globalism is an idea that describes the increasing connection between people across the world as technology advances. With the spread of the internet, the physical boundaries between nations remain the same but culturally and mentally the boundaries get smaller and smaller.

Merriam-Webster defines globalization as "the development of an increasingly integrated global economy marked especially by free trade, free flow of capital, and the tapping of cheaper foreign labor markets". While this definition puts an emphasis on the economic benefits of globalization, I would like to turn our attention to the global communication that globalization brings about. While the concept that a person in the US can communicate with a person all the way across the globe at any time of day for practically free is an amazing and awe-inspiring one, it is a concept that causes considerable problems. While the wealthy can afford the technology and resources to connect to people all across the globe, the poorer countries cannot. This creates a large gap between those who have and those who don't that transcends poverty and lack of material possessions.
