A narrative is more than a story. It should educate the reader by making them understand a time and place where something important has happened. An interesting narrative to me is the new HBO show, "Boardwalk Empire". The show is based in the 1920's and the first episode is the day prohibition commenced. As I watch, I've learned a lot about what it was like in the 1920s while still getting invested in the characters. It has showed me that, slavery was still quite recent and the KU KLUX KLAN was still very open to the public. It has also shown me how badly women were treated especially by their drunken husbands. The show has a disruptions (Prohibition) and it shows what it is like to live through this disruption. It also shows how characters handled the disruption. Like the main character who is profiting from the illegal alcohol, who is also having a lot of problems with the Italian Mafia. "Boardwalk Empire" is a great narrative.
