I'm a Junior majoring in marketing with the intention of minoring in either MIS or entrepreneurship, but I would rather minor in economics if the minor wasn't suspended. I first truly experienced blogs when I started following the economics "blogosphere" in which various prominent economists of different political skews discuss a wide range of economic topics from macro theory to behavioral economics. However, I rarely submit comments and have never written a blog post until now. I have since become a bit of a news-junkie as I subscribed to more and more RSS feeds on different topics.
For fun I enjoy playing tennis, watching movies and playing video games. I also hope to get into racquetball this semester because it is the closest sport to tennis that I can play throughout the winter.
I discovered this class when I was searching for a way to fulfill my global gen-ed requirement, but I am gladly taking it because the way that the media writes narratives has become a curiosity of mine. Why does one media outlet cover a certain issue while other organizations completely ignore the story? Why do some events receive virtually no coverage while others are run 24/7? These are some of the questions that I hope to gain perspective on during this semester.
