Communication

Communication has evolved massively throughout human history. I consider Homer’s oral poetry to be an early form of mass communication. Homer’s epic poems were stories told by word of mouth for generations spreading through thousands of people (Latacz 29). Now we have many more forms of mass communication with the emergence of television, radio, printing, and internet.

The internet is the newest form of Mass communication. People have news sites, where they can read up on the world. But there are also blogs where anybody can post information. This is a new form of interactive mass communication. I also consider blogging a form of conventional communication, since I’m communicating to the professor of this class using the blog. Communication and mass communication is the passing of information between people (Berlo 3). Communication is between small numbers of people, whereas Mass communication is a widespread form of communication.
