Communication

By definition communication is the "imparting or interchange of thoughts, opinions, or information by speech, writing or signs. I feel that this definition is perfect. Communication can be brought about through a number of mediums including T.V, radio, internet, word of mouth writing and many others. Communication can even be conveyed without the use of speech through body language. Without communication we as a race would never be able to access information the way we do today.

Today, with evolution in technology, communication through mass media is the largest and most easily accessible way to receive and transmit information. In the wise words of Niklas Luhmann, "whatever we know, we know through the media." (Myths for the Masses, 4). With the use of media such as televised news and social networking sites information can be transmitted almost worldwide in seconds, which is truly remarkable. The only downfall is that we are essentially at the mercy of the media. Since the idea of mass media is so large there can be discrepancy over who is communicating it with the rest of the world. The information can be a bias based on the ideals of the communicator transmitting the information. With that aside mass communication is the one of the most important facets of our world today.
